Thermography points

Some inspection points carry the orange THERMOGRAPHY label, such as A.2.4.5 Signs of overheating and A.2.11.1 Thermography. The label means the point must be inspected with a thermal camera. It does not mean the dialog looks different.

The dialog is the same

  • The deviation dialog has the same fields as every other point: Location / room, Description, Suggested remedy and Images.
  • Temperatures go into Description. State the absolute temperature at the fault point, the temperature at a comparable reference point, and the difference between them.
  • The thermal image is uploaded under Images, the same way as any other image.

Good to know

  • When you grade a thermography point, the registration is picked up automatically in the Electro-thermography protocol, marked FROM THERMOGRAPHY POINT. You do not register it twice.
  • Above the objects in the protocol sits the box «Automatic summary from completed thermography points», which lists point number and grade and counts how many thermography deviations are TG2 or TG3.
  • Camera, serial number, thermal resolution, sensitivity, lens, calibration date, certificate number, analysis level and ambient temperature are filled in once, in the section Electro-thermography — equipment and conditions.
  • Operating condition belongs to the object in the Electro-thermography protocol, not to the deviation. Normal operation is one of the choices there.

Tips

  • Attach the thermal image to the deviation, not only to the protocol. Then it travels with the finding.
  • Put both the absolute temperature and the difference in the description. Whoever reads the report does not necessarily know the criteria.
  • Inspect under normal load. A hot spot measured at low load is more serious than the same temperature at full load, and a finding taken with no load cannot be graded.

Why are some points marked THERMOGRAPHY?

Because thermography is mandatory for them. These points are about overheating, and overheating cannot be judged by eye. The label is a reminder that a visual finding is not enough here. The help text on A.2.4.5 states that a temperature above 50 °C must be investigated further.
